SKUDAI, Aug 7 – FKE Green Earth Week 2026, an eventful program organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), was successfully executed from Monday, 3 to 7 August 2026. The impactful program was made possible through the full support from the Dean, Prof. Dr. Jafri Din as well as the active participation from the sustainability, safety and well-being committee of FKE, which comprises the FKE Sustainability Committee, FKE Occupational Safety, Health and Environment (OSHE) Committee, FKE Staff Welfare Club (KKSFKE), and FKE Support Staff Welfare Body (BKSSFKE).

The program was also supported fullheartedly by SWM Environment Sdn. Bhd., Johor State Department of Environment (JAS), Pulai Spring Healthcare Centre, Nespalm Group as well as Second Cloth Matter.

Meanwhile, support from the Department of Assets and Development (JHB), UTM, comes in the form of hibiscus saplings, ready to be planted around the faculty.

The major highlights were undeniably the recycling collection activities. With SWM Environment playing a pivotal role in this activity, a staggering amount of sustainable waste was collected, which included 955 kg5kg of recyclable paper, 439kg e-waste,tes as well as 23kg of metal.

SWM Environment support did not stop there. Mohd Aizad Osman, the Executive, Corporate Communications and Government Affairs, participated in the opening and closing ceremonies as well as conveying an important virtual Green Talk entitled “Pengurusan Sisa Mapan dan Program KITARecycle”.

Aizad reminded the audience to correctly manage sustainable wastes, which include e-waste as well as introducing the 5R (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover) to be embedded into our everyday lives.

Another virtual talk organized was on “Pengurusan Bahan Buangan Elektrik dan Elektronik (E-Waste) di Malaysia”. The talk was conveyed by Haniff Mohd Salleh, the Assistant Engineer (Mechanical) from JAS Johor. Haniff highlighted the common types of e-waste and how to manage them properly so they can be recycled and reused.

Several other sustainable waste management activities were also conducted during FKE Green Earth Week 2026. The highly anticipated collection of waste cooking oil, assisted by Nespalm Group, successfully gathered a phenomenal amount of 525kg used cooking oil, where participants were offered a lucrative payback of RM3.00 for each kilogram surrendered.

Such an innovative spin on teaching the UTM community how to manage cooking oil waste, instead of throwing it all in the sink! Not to mention a collection of fabrics, giving old textiles a second life. Second Cloth Matter assisted in this activity, where 240kg of used clothing, bedsheets, soft toys, shoes, and bags were collected from the UTM Community.

Another parallel workshop organized by the FKE, UTM, was the Equipment Operation Training Workshop for the UTM-Huibo Digital Intelligence Satellite Laboratory.

The 5-day workshop includes valuable technical knowledge transfer from Jiangxi Vocational College of Mechanical & Electrical Technology (JXVCMET) to the staff and students of FKE, UTM. The collaboration was highlighted with a Letter of Intent (LoI) signing ceremony between UTM and JXVCMET.

To ensure the health and well-being of UTM Staff, the FKE Green Earth Week 2026 has invited Dr. Syed Abdul Qayyum Naqiuddin from Pulai Springs Healthcare Centre to convey an invaluable talk on Dengue fever and how to prevent the spread of the disease.

Continuous support from Pulai Springs Healthcare Centre during the Program was apparent through the provision of General Health Screening for the staff from the FKE, UTM. Participating staff members include the Dean himself, as well as the top management of the faculty.

Pulai Spring Healthcare Centre has also offered to provide talks on mental health for students and staff in the near future. So watch this space.

During the FKE Green Earth Week 2026, FKE UTM, with the help of the FKE OSHE Committee, has organised a workshop “Kursus Pengurusan Bahan Kimia & Pengurusan Tumpahan Sisa Terjadual (Skala Sederhana)”.

Held in P04-217 FKE, a total of 35 participants from the faculty participated in this workshop.

Several highlights of the one-day workshop include talks, as well as follow-up practical sessions on chemical management and scheduled waste spillage management.

The workshop was conducted primarily focusing on safety issues while managing harmful wastes in the faculty and preventing unwanted incidents. Heartfelt gratitude to all the assistant engineers who participated in the workshop.

Last but not least, the FKE Green Earth Week 2026 will not be complete without the FKE Green Actions, with three missions to complete: plogging, green gardening and green clean-up.

With the hibiscus saplings from JHB UTM, the FKE UTM was made greener by planting them all around the faculty.

In conjunction with the ‘Independence Month’, the planting of hibiscus trees is a symbolic gesture made by the faculty members and the committee of FKE Green Earth Week 2026.

Meanwhile, the Plogging and Clean-up mission around the faculty has seen active participation from the staff members, joined by the Faculty Dean, Prof. Jafri Din, ensuring a dynamic, vibrant and clean faculty.

FKE Green Earth Week 2026 was successfully concluded with impactful activities that seamlessly addressed the three pillars of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG).

The program championed the preservation of the environment through the recycling activities, the FKE Green Actions, and the chemical spillage management workshop.

Meanwhile, the society’s requirement was addressed through knowledge transfer from Huibo Robotics and JXVCMET. Furthermore, the participation of top management officials in all the activities, including the LoI signing, perfectly demonstrated leadership and accountability.

In just five days, the program has covered SDG 3 (Health), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption) and SDG 17 (Partnership for the Goals) – a remarkable collective accomplishment by the dedicated staff of FKE.

Ultimately, FKE Green Earth Week 2026 is an outstanding milestone which set a new benchmark for the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, reinforcing the faculty’s unwavering commitment to building a greener, more sustainable future, aligned with the theme “Inovasi Lestari, Mencetus Ekosistem Bestari “.
