SIDOARJO, Jul 1 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) continues to strengthen its international research visibility through the participation of Prof. Dr. Fahrul Zaman Huyop from the Faculty of Science, who was invited as one of the distinguished keynote speakers at the 5th International Conference Series on Science, Engineering, and Technology (ICSSET) 2026 hosted by Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (UMSIDA), Indonesia.
The international conference, held in a hybrid format, brought together leading scientists, engineers, academicians, and researchers from across Asia and beyond to exchange ideas and innovations under the theme “Technology and Infrastructure Innovation to Support Sustainable Energy and Food Security in the Digital Era.”
ICSSET 2026 was organised by the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), UMSIDA, in collaboration with several internationally renowned institutions, including UTM, Kumamoto University (KU) from Japan, Technical University of Munich (TUM) Asia from Singapore and California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) from the United States (USA).
The conference also provides selected papers with publication opportunities in the prestigious American Institute of Physics (AIP) Conference Proceedings.
Prof. Fahrul was honoured to deliver one of the conference’s keynote addresses alongside an esteemed panel of internationally recognised speakers from Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and the United States.
His keynote lecture, entitled Asian Honey: From Authenticity to Therapeutic Potential, highlighted the remarkable scientific advances in Asian honey research and its growing importance in health sciences and biotechnology.
During his presentation, Prof. Fahrul shared recent findings on the authentication of Asian honey, its diverse bioactive compounds, and the growing body of scientific evidence supporting its therapeutic properties, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antidiabetic activities.
He also discussed current challenges in ensuring honey authenticity and quality, while emphasising the need for multidisciplinary research to unlock the full medicinal potential of natural honey resources across Asia.
The keynote attracted strong interest from international participants, stimulating lively discussions on future collaborations in functional foods, natural products, biotechnology, and sustainable health innovations.
Prof. Fahrul noted that international platforms such as ICSSET play an important role in strengthening global research networks and showcasing UTM’s expertise in natural product biotechnology and biomedical sciences.
His participation further reflects UTM’s commitment to advancing impactful research, expanding international collaborations, and contributing scientific solutions towards sustainable development, food security and global health.
