BEIJING, Apr 16 – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim, participated in the China–Malaysia University Presidents’ Roundtable hosted by Beijing Normal University, alongside fellow Vice-chancellors, Presidents, and Rectors from Malaysian and Chinese universities.
The roundtable strengthened Malaysia–China collaboration in higher education, focusing on talent development, academic exchange, and institutional partnerships. It brought together university leaders from both countries to exchange views on building globally competent graduates and enhancing cooperation across disciplines.

The Vice-Chancellor’s speech, titled “Civilisational Wisdom and Global Talent: Building a Shared Future through China–Malaysia University Collaboration”, emphasised that the foundation of true knowledge lies in adab, the discipline of placing knowledge, action, and purpose in their rightful context.
“The universities must play a broader role beyond knowledge creation, serving as bridges of values, understanding, and cooperation in an increasingly interconnected world,” he said.
He highlighted the importance of adab as a guiding principle in education, noting its alignment with Confucian values that emphasise ethics, harmony, and societal responsibility in shaping balanced individuals.
The Vice-Chancellor’s participation reflects UTM’s continued commitment to strengthening international partnerships and contributing to the global higher education landscape, in line with national aspirations to develop globally competent and values-driven talent.
Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry also conveyed his appreciation to the International Islamic University Malaysia and the International Confucian Academy for the invitation and for facilitating a meaningful platform for dialogue between institutions from both nations.
In conjunction with the visit, Prof. Dr. Mohd Shafry also undertook official engagements with the Communication University of China and the North China University of Technology, aimed at exploring potential collaboration opportunities and further strengthening academic linkages between institutions.
