JOHOR BAHRU, Mar 9 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) continues to strengthen its global engagement with the arrival of 61 exchange students from 12 countries for the Semester 2, 2025/2026 intake. The diverse cohort, representing institutions from Europe, Asia, and Australia, reflects UTM’s growing reputation as a preferred destination for international academic mobility and cross-cultural learning.
A meet-and-greet session was recently organised to officially welcome the students and introduce them to campus life at UTM. The session provided an opportunity for students to connect with their assigned buddies under the UTM Global Buddies Programme, fostering early engagement and helping them adapt smoothly to the academic and social environment on campus. During the session, students were also briefed on academic procedures, university regulations, visa matters, and various activities planned for them throughout the semester.
This semester’s intake involves collaboration with 47 partner institutions worldwide, with strong representation from China alongside participation from countries such as Finland, Spain, the Czech Republic, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, France, Taiwan, Australia, and Russia. Several students are also participating in the programme under prestigious mobility schemes such as Erasmus+, Global Engineering Education Exchange (GE4), and the ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS). Their participation highlights the strength of UTM’s global partnerships and the university’s growing recognition among international mobility networks.
The increasing number of mobility students from Europe further demonstrates UTM’s expanding visibility in the region and signals a positive trend for future international collaborations. Among the participating faculties, the Faculty of Computing hosts the highest number of exchange students this semester, with a total of 17 students, reflecting the faculty’s strong engagement in supporting UTM’s internationalisation agenda.
Beyond academic learning, the exchange students will be exposed to UTM’s Internationalisation@Home initiatives, which provide a comprehensive and immersive experience throughout their stay in Malaysia. The programme includes a wide range of activities such as cultural immersion programmes, excursions to iconic destinations, community engagement projects, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, and various sports and recreational activities. These initiatives aim to provide students with a holistic learning experience while allowing them to gain deeper insights into Malaysian culture, society, and values.
To further enrich the students’ mobility experience, UTM collaborates with several strategic partners, including Yayasan Warisan Johor, Tourism Johor, tourism agencies, and the Segamat Municipal Council (MPS). These collaborations help create meaningful opportunities for international students to explore Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage while strengthening connections between the university and local communities.
The UTM International Office extends its sincere appreciation to all faculties and staff for their continuous efforts in hosting and supporting international students, as well as for actively expanding UTM’s global partnerships. These collective contributions remain vital in advancing the university’s vision of “Bring UTM to the world, bring the world to UTM”.
