JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 5 – The Centre for Environmental Sustainability and Water Security (IPASA), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), was honoured to host a distinguished delegation from the Institute of Environment and Ecology (IEE), Tsinghua University, China. The delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Yu Longfei, Assistant Dean of International Cooperation & Academic Affairs, and included Asst. Prof. Jong Mui Choo, Florence, Deputy Director of the Office of Global Affairs, Tsinghua SIGS, as well as Xie Kexin, Academic Officer for Master Programs & International Recruitment.

Renowned for its excellence in science, engineering, sustainability, and global policy, Tsinghua has a strong track record of addressing pressing environmental challenges through research, innovation, and international collaboration.

The visit featured a strategic bilateral discussion that highlighted the alignment of research priorities between Tsinghua IEE and IPASA, particularly in areas of sustainability, climate resilience, water security, and environmental health. The dialogue explored opportunities for collaborative research, joint capacity-building initiatives, and academic exchanges aimed at advancing knowledge and solutions to complex environmental challenges. The discussions that was also attended by the representatives from the Faculty of Science, Faculty of Civil Engineering (FKA), and the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FKT) UTM culminated in an agreement to formalise the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), showing both institutions’ commitment to long-term collaboration.

As part of the visit, IPASA hosted an International Colloquium presented by Assoc. Prof. Yu Longfei, titled “Progress in Greenhouse Gas Monitoring and Modeling under Global Change.” Approximately 40 UTM students attended the session, gaining valuable insights into cutting-edge greenhouse gas research, modeling methodologies, and the broader implications of global environmental change. The event also featured a sharing session by five Malaysian postgraduate students currently enrolled in the Dual Degree Programme at Tsinghua University, who highlighted their academic and cultural experiences
