AMTEC Strengthens Innovation: Appointed as Jury at SI2TE 2025

KULIM, Oct 9 – Three members from the Advanced Membrane Technology Research Centre (AMTEC), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) — Prof. Ts. Dr. Juhana Jaafar, Dr. Farhana Aziz, and Dr. Mohd Shahrizan Moslan — were invited to serve as jury members at the SIRIM Industrial Innovation & Technology Expo (SI2TE) 2025, organized by the Advanced Materials Research Centre (AMREC), Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), Kulim.

Their appointment as juries signifies national recognition of AMTEC’s leadership, credibility, and scientific excellence in membrane science, materials innovation, and environmental technology. The inclusion of AMTEC experts on the evaluation panel highlights the centre’s long-standing collaboration with SIRIM and other industrial agencies in strengthening Malaysia’s research, development, and commercialization (R&D&C) ecosystem.

The SIRIM Invention, Innovation & Technology Expo (SI2TE), organized annually by SIRIM Berhad, serves as a premier national platform that brings together innovators, researchers, students, and industry players to showcase groundbreaking inventions and technologies ready for commercialization. Since its inception in 2014, SI2TE has evolved into one of Malaysia’s flagship innovation exhibitions, hosted at AMREC SIRIM, Kulim Hi-Tech Park, attracting participation from universities, research institutions, and industry partners nationwide. The 2025 edition marks the 7th SI2TE, continuing its mission to promote creativity, applied research, and technology transfer in support of Malaysia’s innovation and industrial transformation agenda.

In conjunction with the event, AMTEC also participated as an exhibitor, displaying its latest research breakthroughs and promoting its research products and analytical services. Among the highlights were advanced membrane-based filtration systems, sensor-integrated adsorption devices, and photocatalytic treatment technologies for environmental and energy applications. These innovations exemplify AMTEC’s commitment to developing sustainable, cost-effective, and high-performance solutions to address critical global challenges such as water scarcity, pollution control, and clean energy generation.

Through its participation, AMTEC not only enhanced its visibility among Malaysia’s innovation community but also strengthened its ties with key industrial and government stakeholders. The engagement provided opportunities to explore new research collaborations, technology licensing, and commercialization prospects, in line with UTM’s aspiration to bridge academic research with industrial application and societal impact.

Prof. Ts. Dr. Juhana Jaafar, Director of AMTEC, emphasized that the centre’s involvement in SI2TE reflects UTM’s continuous pursuit of impactful research that contributes to national development. “Our participation and recognition at SI2TE reaffirm AMTEC’s role as a national leader in membrane technology, driving innovation that supports sustainable industries and environmental resilience,” she said. Over the years, AMTEC has become a benchmark research centre with strong international linkages, particularly in the fields of membrane fabrication, separation processes, and water treatment technologies. Its multidisciplinary expertise and active engagement with local industries continue to propel Malaysia toward achieving technological self-reliance and sustainable industrial growth.

The recognition of AMTEC members as juries at SI2TE 2025 not only demonstrates their professional integrity and technical authority but also underscores AMTEC’s mission to nurture innovation, inspire excellence, and accelerate Malaysia’s transition towards a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy. This milestone further cements AMTEC’s position as a world-class research hub — one that bridges science and industry, advances technological frontiers, and champions innovation excellence both within Malaysia and on the global stage.
