UTM Leads Development of Malaysia’s Strategic Communications Multimedia Technology Roadmap 2025–2030 (MyTMAP2030)

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 9 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) proudly announces the successful completion and official launch of the Strategic Communications and Multimedia Technology Roadmap 2025–2030 (MyTMAP2030) — a national initiative commissioned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in collaboration with the Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd (MTSFB).

On 9 September 2025, MyTMAP2030 was officially launched during the ITU–MCMC Bridging the Standardisation Gap (BSG) Workshop on AI Standards and Governance, held at M Resort & Hotel Kuala Lumpur. The launch marked a significant milestone in Malaysia’s journey to strengthen its digital ecosystem, enhance governance frameworks, and position itself at the forefront of emerging technologies. The event brought together policymakers, regulators, industry leaders, and experts from across the Asia-Pacific to exchange insights on the future of AI standards, governance, and digital transformation.

Funded under the Industry Promotion and Development Grant 2024 (IPDG2024), this comprehensive roadmap project was undertaken by Uni-Technologies Sdn. Bhd. (UTSB), a wholly owned UTM subsidiary appointed as the lead consultant. It charts Malaysia’s technology trajectory towards a sustainable, resilient, and innovation-driven communications and multimedia ecosystem through extensive research, benchmarking, and stakeholder engagement.

The project was led by Prof. Ir. Dr. Sevia Mahdaliza Idrus Sutan Nameh from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), supported by a multidisciplinary UTM team comprising Assoc. Prof. Dr. Haliyana Khalid and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maizaitulaidawati Md Husin from the Azman Hashim International Business School (AHIBS); Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Rashidah Arsat, Ir. Dr. Muhammad Yusof Mohd Noor, Dr. Osman Ayop and Ts. Chua Tien Han from the FKE; Assoc. Prof. Ts. Ir. Dr. Sumiaty Ambran from the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Sophiayati Yuhaniz, Dr. Azizul Azizan and Ts. Ir. Dr. Hazilah Mad Kaidi from the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI). The project was executed in three phases, benchmarking and framework development, stakeholder engagement involving 123 industry experts from 41 organisations, and strategic recommendation formulation. As part of its strategic capacity-building effort, the project also included five Knowledge Transfer Programmes (KTPs) designed to train selected MCMC and MTSFB officers in strategy development and technology planning.

UTM extends its deepest gratitude to all individuals and organisations whose invaluable contributions made this initiative possible. Special recognition goes to MCMC, MTSFB, UTSB, the MyTMAP2030 team, industry partners, and research universities (RUIs) whose commitment ensured the roadmap not only meets but exceeds the strategic aspirations for Malaysia’s communications and multimedia future.
