UTM Alumna Dr. Fatma Al-Balushi named among Global 200 Women Power Leaders 2025

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) proudly celebrates the recognition of Dr. Fatma bint Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Balushi, Advisor to the Secretary-General for Museums Affairs at The National Museum of Oman, as one of the Global 200 Women Power Leaders of 2025 by White Page International in association with WCRC Leaders.

A distinguished Omani leader, Dr. Fatma has been instrumental in shaping Oman’s cultural heritage narrative through innovative museum practices and cultural diplomacy. Her leadership in government institutions has also advanced eGovernment and smart cities initiatives, demonstrating her ability to integrate culture, technology, and governance in sustainable ways.

Dr. Fatma earned her PhD in Information Systems at UTM in 2019, supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Mahadi Bahari of UTM’s Faculty of Management. Her time at UTM honed her capacity to combine research with real-world application — a principle she continues to apply in projects that balance cultural preservation with digital innovation.

Among her many contributions, Dr. Fatma leads the Muttrah Souq Heritage Project, oversees the repatriation of Omani cultural property, and champions collaborations between museums and communities to strengthen identity and belonging. These efforts embody sustainability not only in the environmental sense, but also in the cultural and social dimensions — preserving heritage while building resilient communities for the future.

Internationally, she has represented Oman at high-level forums in Malaysia, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, and Morocco, earning honors for her scholarship and leadership. Her recognitions include being named among the 100 Influential Omani Women, as well as awards for innovation in museums and information systems.

Dr. Fatma’s journey epitomizes UTM’s ethos and its global call to action: Innovating Sustainable Solutions. Her recognition highlights how UTM alumni are not only excelling in their fields but also advancing knowledge, preserving cultures, and creating impact that sustains societies for generations.

As UTM continues its ascent in global rankings, leaders like Dr. Fatma Al-Balushi stand as proof of the transformative power of a UTM education — one that reaches far beyond Malaysia, shaping solutions for the world.
