iMEDiTEC 2025 strengthen global ties in medical devices innovation

BAYAN LEPAS, 19 Sept.– The 4th International Medical Device & Technology Conference (iMEDiTEC 2025) concluded successfully at Eastin Hotel, Penang, on 19 September 2025. Organized by the Medical Devices and Technology Centre (MEDiTEC) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in collaboration with the Institute of Human-Centered Engineering (iHumEn), UTM and co-host Faculty of Dentistry, Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Indonesia, the two-day event reaffirmed its position as a strategic platform for cross-border innovation and collaboration in the field of medical technology.

With the theme “Navigating the New Age: Current and Future Evolution in Medical Devices,” iMEDiTEC 2025 brought together researchers, clinicians, regulators, industry experts, and students to share insights and advances across six core tracks, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Healthcare, Bioinstrumentation, Signal Processing & Analytics, Medical Implant Technology & Tissue Engineering, Advanced Materials, Biomechanics & Biofluid, Ergonomics & Rehabilitation Technology, and Medical Diagnostics & Therapeutics.

This year’s conference successfully accepted and reviewed 66 scientific papers, reflecting the high calibre of submissions. Representatives from over 10 local and international institutions, alongside key agencies such as the Medical Device Authority (MDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), participated in the conference. Practicing doctors, engineers, and medical device industry leaders also contributed to the rich discourse throughout the event.

The presentation session

The conference was officially opened by Prof. Shahrizal Sunar, Director of iHumEn UTM, followed by two high-impact keynote addresses. Prof. Dr. Tunku Kamarul Zaman of University of Malaya spoke on “Orthopaedic Implants: The Future and Challenges that Lie Ahead,” while Prof. Dr. Hendrik Setia Budi of UNAIR, presented his work on “3D Porous Poly (ε-caprolactone)/Graphene Scaffolds for Bone Tissue Engineering.”

The opening remark was delivered by the conference chair. In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Nor Hasrul Akhmal Ngadiman, Chair of iMEDiTEC 2025, emphasized the importance of global and interdisciplinary collaboration, “The medical device landscape is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and conferences like iMEDiTEC serve as a catalyst for bridging the gap between research, regulation, and real-world application. Our goal is not just to present findings, but to foster sustainable partnerships that will shape the future of healthcare technologies, regionally and globally”.

The final day concluded with a closing ceremony, marking not just the end of the conference, but the beginning of new partnerships and joint research opportunities. iMEDiTEC continues to evolve, from its first edition in Johor Bahru to online adaptation during COVID-19, the third in Kuala Lumpur, and now Penang, each step further solidifying its impact.

Looking ahead, the organizers aim to expand the platform’s global reach and strengthen its contribution to the medical device ecosystem in Southeast Asia and beyond. Congratulations to all committees from UTM for their dedication in successfully organizing this impactful conference.
