JOHOR BAHRU, June 14 – The International Student Society (ISS) Pakistan at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) successfully conducted a hands-on workshop titled “A Step-by-Step Guide to Bibliometric Analysis” on Saturday, 14 June 2025 at Lecture Hall-6, P19, UTM.

Open to all local and international students, the workshop attracted enthusiastic participation from various faculties and research backgrounds. Designed specifically for postgraduate students and early-career researchers, the session aimed to equip participants with the practical skills needed to conduct bibliometric studies and develop publication-ready research papers.

The workshop was led by Dr. Muhammad Bilal Zafar, Postdoctoral Fellow at UTM, who guided attendees through each stage of bibliometric analysis using real datasets. As a hands-on session, all participants installed R and RStudio on their laptops and actively followed along with live demonstrations using the Bibliometrix package. Additional visualization tools such as VOSviewer were also introduced to help interpret and present bibliometric networks.

Participants appreciated the interactive format and practical learning approach, noting that they gained valuable skills in data extraction, analysis, and research mapping. The training helped them identify research trends, high-impact authors, and relevant journals within their respective fields.

This initiative directly supports UTM’s core values of Integrity, Sustainability, Excellence, and Synergy (ISES) by promoting ethical and transparent research methods, enhancing research competency, encouraging excellence in scholarly output, and fostering a collaborative academic environment.

“This workshop was a meaningful step toward empowering researchers with practical skills in bibliometric analysis,” said Usman Niaz, President of ISS Pakistan and PhD student at the Faculty of Science. “We are grateful to Dr. Bilal Zafar and all participants for making it a truly engaging and successful event.”

The event concluded with a note of appreciation presented to Dr. Bilal Zafar and overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees. ISS Pakistan expressed its commitment to organizing more academic and skill-building events to support the research community at UTM.
