LONDON, Mar 18 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) continues to shine on the global stage with the recent achievement of Wimbi Apriwanda Nursiwan, a PhD student in the Chemistry Education program at the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Technology (FEST). Under the supervision of Dr Chuzairy Hanri and Associate Professor Dr Nor Hasniza Ibrahim, Wimbi won the Research Poster Award in the Education category (Primary/Secondary Education) at the prestigious Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) event in 2025.
Her research focuses on enhancing scientific creativity in chemistry education, particularly at the secondary school level. This study develops an innovative teaching approach using instructional media that serves as a guideline for teachers aiming to improve students’ scientific creativity in chemistry learning. Additionally, it investigates the creative processes students undergo when these approaches are implemented, providing valuable insights into how they generate and refine ideas in chemistry. By offering structured strategies, this research supports educators in fostering students’ problem-solving skills, creative traits, scientific imagination, divergent thinking, and the development of creative products in the field of chemistry education.
The research poster received over 7,000 impressions, indicating significant engagement and interest from the global academic community. Furthermore, chemistry education lecturers also shared their comments regarding this achievement. Dr Chuzairy Hanri expressed his pride and excitement by saying, “Wow, congratulations! Amazing!” Similarly, Professor Dr. Johari Surif conveyed his admiration by stating, “Awesome!” Their remarks underscore the impact of Wimbi’s success and enhance UTM’s reputation in the field of chemistry education.

This achievement highlights UTM’s commitment to impactful research and innovation in chemistry education, further enhancing its reputation as a leading institution in scientific and educational advancements. It also strengthens UTM’s global standing, showcasing its dedication to high-impact research and innovative practices in chemistry education. Winning an award at the RSC event reinforces UTM’s position as a premier research institution, attracting collaborations with top universities worldwide and expanding its academic network. Moreover, by inspiring researchers and increasing institutional support, this success solidifies UTM’s role in advancing global scientific and educational efforts, particularly in chemistry education.
The event, organized by the RSC in the United Kingdom, took place virtually on the LinkedIn platform on March 4, 2025, attracting over 1,700 delegates from more than 80 countries. Participants included researchers from prestigious universities worldwide, such as the University of Cambridge and King’s College London in the UK, Monash University in Australia, Universidad de Murcia in Spain, Heidelberg University in Germany, University of Ottawa in Canada, Université du Littoral Côte d’Opale in France, and many others. Despite the intense competition, Wimbi’s research distinguished itself through its innovative approach to enhancing scientific creativity in secondary-level chemistry education. The winners were officially announced on March 18, 2025.
