JOHOR BAHRU, 30 June 2024 – The URBANViz Analytics Challenge 2024, led by Ts. Gs. Dr. Noradila Rusli, is a pioneering initiative to promote urban data visualization technology among students of the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU). This innovative competition has garnered considerable attention for its emphasis on developing interactive dashboards to tackle urban issues and improve monitoring activities within the built environment and surveying disciplines.

The event was held at the Makmal Ahris Yaakup, FABU UTM, and showcased the talents of eight groups of students from the Urban and Regional Planning and Geoinformation programmes. Esteemed judges, including Prof. Dato’ TPr Dr Ahmad Nazri Muhammad Ludin, Dr Suzanna Noor Azmy, and Ts. Gs. Dr. Mohammad Zakri Tarmidi, evaluated the participants’ projects. The event concluded with a compelling closing speech by Assoc. Prof. TPr. Dr. Siti Hajar Misnan, Director of the Urban and Regional Planning Programme.

Participants had to present and demonstrate their digital dashboards at the event within five minutes, followed by a three-minute question and answer session. The judging criteria focused on innovation, creativity, impact, potential, implementation, and the elusive ‘Wow’ factor.

The competition ended with the announcement of the winners, celebrating the exemplary efforts and ingenuity displayed by all participants. The awards were distributed as follows:

– The URBAN Rangers received the Gold Award, which included a certificate, medal, and a cash prize of RM300.

– NextGen Urbanist was awarded the Silver Award, which included a certificate, medal, and a cash prize of RM250.

– 2GB received the Bronze Award, which included a certificate, medal, and a cash prize of RM150.

– The VizPro team was given the Special Award, including a certificate, plaque, and a cash prize of RM350.
