Malang, August 2023 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) made a significant impact at the prestigious International Short Course on STEM Education and the International Conference on Mathematics and Science Education (ICoMSE 2023), hosted at Universitas Negeri Malang (UM) from August 12th to 15th.
The short course, held on August 12th, was a dynamic platform designed to empower students with innovative approaches in STEM education. Thirteen undergraduate students and four lecturers from UTM’s School of Education, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, actively participated in the sessions focused on implementing STEM activities and understanding the evolving role of STEM in education. These lecturers, Assoc Prof. Dr. Johari Surif, Assoc Prof. Dr. Nor Hasniza Ibrahim, Dr. Muhammad Abd Hadi Bunyamin, and Puan Marlina Ali, brought their extensive expertise and knowledge to the event, greatly enhancing the learning experience.
The two-day conference, spanning August 14th and 15th, delved into the trends, challenges, and potential research areas in STEM education. It featured prominent keynote speakers, including Prof. Melanie Cooper (Michigan State University, USA), Prof. Rohaida Mohd Saat (Universiti Malaya, Malaysia), Prof. Chun Yen Chang (National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan), Prof. Gabriele Kaiser (University of Hamburg, Germany), and Prof. Lilia Halim (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia). Notably, Assoc Prof. Dr. Johari Surif from UTM was among the distinguished keynote speakers, highlighting UTM’s academic excellence on an international stage.
Amidst the academic sessions, participants enjoyed a cultural excursion to Mount Bromo on August 13th. This excursion provided an excellent opportunity for students and lecturers to network with their international counterparts, fostering connections that go beyond academic collaboration.
