Japanese Minister of Education Visits UTM Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology, Boosting Collaboration and Inspiring Students

Kuala Lumpur, 25th June – On June 25, 2023, Ms. Nagaoka Keiko, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of Japan, along with her delegation, paid a courtesy visit to the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT). The UTM Management team, led by Prof. Ts. Dr. Abd. Latif bin Salleh, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of UTMKL Campus, accompanied the visit, along with Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Nurulakmar binti Abu Husain (Deputy Dean Academic & Student Development of MJIIT), Prof. Dr. Masafumi Goto (Deputy Dean Liaison & International of MJIIT), Mr. Isamu Hamada (Chief Advisor JICA MJIIT), MJIIT Management, and staff. In addition, Japanese officials from the Embassy of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) were present to witness this significant event. The Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE) also had a representative in attendance.

The visit commenced with a warm welcome from UTM Pro-VC Prof. Ts. Abd. Latif, followed by introductory remarks by Minister Nagaoka Keiko. The agenda of the visit included an overview of MJIIT, an introduction to the Japanese Language and Cultural Centre, an interactive session between the Minister and MJIIT students, as well as visits to the laboratory and i-Kohza. The laboratories that were showcased included ALGAE iKohza and the Advanced Precision Laboratory.

During the visit, discussions were held among the officials regarding the future prospects of MJIIT. Additionally, MJIIT students were provided with the opportunity to briefly engage with the officials. The officials expressed their admiration for MJIIT’s achievements and the students’ enthusiasm for learning the Japanese language and culture.

The session concluded with a photo session featuring UTM Management and staff members. We express our sincere gratitude to Minister Nagaoka Keiko for visiting UTM MJIIT.
