It was a lovely and lively event after two years of online sorrow. All 4th-year FKE students rose to the occasion and celebrated their hard work and innovations through the 6th Electrical Engineering Capstone Showcase 2022 (EECS 2022). This grand showcase was held at Pulai Springs Resort on the 16th of Jan,uary 2023. It was officiated by Prof. Dr Shamsul bin Sahibuddin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs) and Prof. Dr Jafri bin Din, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

The Capstone course is compulsory for all 4th-year students to fulfil the requirement of graduation. It provides opportunities for final-year students to gain experience in integrated engineering design projects and improve their generic skills in managing projects and developing prototypes. The students work in a team and are required to conceive and solve a community or industry-based problem under an assigned theme, facilitated by an appointed academic staff.

The event was generously sponsored by AT&S Austria Technologie & Systemtechnik (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. as the platinum sponsor and UTM Center for Student Innovation & Technology Entrepreneurship (UTM XCITE), OSI Optoelectronics Sdn. Bhd. And Aimflex Systems Sdn. Bhd. as the gold sponsors.

The students’ efforts ought to be celebrated. With almost 30 industry panels as the assessors, it proves industry and university collaboration to enhance students’ experience in this course. The students learned that technologies and skills alone are not important as this course requires them to meet the community and identify the needs and pains of the potential end users. Before the event ended, awards were given to the winners of the UTM Nexus Award, Theme Award, Best Project Award and the most coveted Best of the Best Award. The Best of the Best Award was won by team P2G08 with the project titled “Smart System for Agriculture Powered by Solar Energy”. The members are Ahmad Zul Izzat bin Busu@Zulkifli, Wan Muhammad Arif bin Wan Ibrahim, Mazlen Zulleikhaa binti Madzalan, Maslah Gure Abdikarim and supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr Awang bin Jusoh.

Congratulations to all the winners and also to the committee members for successfully organising the event!
