Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Johor Bahru ––– Eid al Fitr is a blessing and remarkable day celebrated by all Muslims across the world after they have successfully completed the fasting obligatory in the Holy month of Ramadan. In conjunction with the Eid al Fitr, UTM International has prepared an ingenious initiative to memorialize this year’s Eid al Fitr celebration with all international students of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) together with their families. The celebration took place on May 3, 2022 (the second day of Eid) from 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM at Sultan Iskandar Hall.
The event was attended by 250 international students and the higher-ups of UTM including Dr Shamsul Hendra, the representative for Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs) and Dr Ariffin, the Associate Director of Global Education and Experience, UTM International. The inaugural speech was delivered by Dr Ariffin to welcome all invited guests and their families. The event was thoroughly prepared by the organizer to ignite the lively atmosphere of Hari Raya among UTM International students and staff. Following the welcoming speech by Dr Ariffin, the guests were delighted with mesmerizing performances by the International Student Society (ISS) consisting of students from Yemen, Pakistan, Nigeria, India, Afghanistan and Tanzania. ISS Pakistan brought a very unique touch to their performance by introducing their children’s talent to perform dancing skills on the stage. All guests and participants were served Nasi Biryani, satay, different kinds of kuih raya and juices and during the feast, all guests made use of the chance to get acquainted with one another in creating the bonding as a family of UTM.
By participating in this event, the students and their families had the opportunity to feel a refreshing viewpoint of the Eid al Fitr celebration where different cultures and attires were brought together in a single event. Eid al Fitr 2022 celebration has received great feedback from the students and their families and the effort in succeeding the event shall be credited to six UTM International staff and six volunteers from ISS Bangladesh who have contributed to the successful running of the event.
