English Course 2.0 By Sinar JKM Kolej Tun Dr. Ismail

SINAR (Inisiatif Jana Kemahiran Siswa Resak) is a KTDI Student College Committee (JKM) program that will be carried out throughout 2021 and 2022. The SINAR program includes various skills courses made not only by UTM students but also the general public. The courses under the SINAR Initiative generally aim at helping students to remain competent, skilled, and aligned with the needs of the current world. All students can seize the opportunity to improve their skills through various courses that will be offered as well as provide added value to them and increase the potential for success of job marketability. The program was held on the 16th of April 2022.

The objective of this English Course 2.0 is to develop first-class-minded students, develop students to make sure they are not left behind in terms of skills and personality, train and develop progressive and competent students for the workforce, and to make KTDI an agent for the transformation of skilled students in addition to creating knowledgeable skills to campus residents. The speakers we invited are Ms Rika Diana, Ms Nurul Na’immah, Ms Nur Shamsinar and Dr Hema Rosheny.

The event began with the speakers’ introductory remarks, followed by self-introductions and some interactive sessions with the participants. The basic English course began with a pronunciation slot, during which the presenters presented and advised the attendees on how to correctly pronounce the words, as well as some tips and tactics for doing so. Aside from that, hands-on practises using the given workbook were employed to ensure that participants had a better grasp.

The course was then followed by a parallelism slot, during which the presenters presented and informed the attendees by presenting various examples and hands-on activities to help them learn more about it.

Finally, the speakers conducted activities related to paraphrasing skills, in which participants learn to describe the meaning of something using other words, particularly in order to attain more clarity.

Before concluding the courses, a Kahoot game session was held to assess the participants’ knowledge of the lecture. The top three champions each received 6 out of 10 scores. Immediately after the event, they were each given their prize money. The course was completed successfully. For this English Course 2.0 session, we are quite happy to have four presenters. We would also like to use this opportunity to thank all of the participants for their support of our programme. We hope to see you at our next SINAR session.
