In line with Online Global Classroom Scheme, the Academic Writing for Undergraduate Course was conducted virtually through Google Meet platform. The course was run by Language Academy, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) with the University of Tabriz (Iran) and Islamic Azad University (Iran).

The main objective behind this course was to provide further training in terms of academic writing for undergraduate students as a necessary skill. The second objective of the course was to create international bonding and extend academic cooperation across universities by referring to the field experts in the form of inbound and outbound academic programs.

This course was made up of three sessions in three consecutive weeks. The first session which was held on 15 November 2021, was an “Introduction to the Fundamentals of Academic Writing” delivered by Dr. Majid Fatahipour, a faculty member of Islamic Azad University. Meanwhile, the second session which was held on 22 November 2021, was focused on “Paragraph Development” delivered by Dr. Yaser Hadidi, a faculty member of the University of Tabriz. Lastly, the third session of this series which was held on 29 November, was focused on “Essay Writing” delivered by Dr. Aliakbar Imani, from Language Academy, UTM.

More than 100 participants among international undergraduates from different countries such as Iran, Malaysia, Turkey, China, Iraq, Egypt, United Arab Emirates and others participated in this series. During this course, real samples of students’ academic writing were discussed. The students were familiarized with the objectives and missions as well as the process of academic writing and its necessary skills such as critical thinking, brainstorming and editing.
