Two UTM Engineering Students Emerged as First Runner-up in Corporate Insight & Empowerment (CIE) 7.0

On 2 October 2021, Two Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Faculty of Engineering students, namely Oscar Ling and Tan Jun Jie, along with their The Chill Consulting team members, Hoh Jia Da from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Ng Kha Yun from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore emerged as the First Runner-up of the Corporate Insight & Empowerment (CIE) 7.0. 

The team took home RM 4,000.00 cash prize after competing with 164 individuals from 42 teams during the final round held virtually through Zoom platform. The team had been undergoing a series of three weeks of the comprehensive selection process from the preliminary round, semi-final round, and final round, which happened on 2nd October 2021.

In this competition, participants had to conduct an in-depth case study on the given task and submit a proposal that contains vital elements such as financial, business model, stakeholder analysis, crisis management, competitor analysis, SWOT analysis, Go-to-market strategies and communication plan.

The Corporate Insight and Empowerment (CIE) is a flagship event hosted annually by the Malaysian Studentsʼ Council of Australia (MASCA) that provides a platform to bridge the gap between students and the corporate world in Malaysia. CIE 7.0 was a prestigious case competition set to accommodate students from all disciplines by allowing them to work in teams of four on a specific inter-disciplinary case, designed by Maybank.

The final judges composed of business leaders and professionals representing various fields and industries were invited to evaluate the performance of the contestants. In the final round, they were Janice Low, the Assistant VP of talent acquisition and workplace futurization from Maybank Malaysia, Kenneth Z Tan, Head of Human Resource Centre of excellence from Shopee Malaysia, and Lin Sin Han, Director of Advisory from BDO.
