JOHOR BAHRU – The excellent reputation and outstanding track record from the previous completed project has prompted the engineering, manufacturing, automotive and equipment manufacturer, UMW Sdn Bhd to once again laid its trust to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) engineering capabilities.
The trust was realized through the signing of the Letter of Intention (LoI) in the senate hall by the UMW Group Chief Human Resource Officer, Zailani Ali and Assistant Dean (Global and External Engagements) Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Ir. Dr. Shuhaimi Mansor witnessed by Prof. Datuk Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, currently performing the function as Vice-Chancellor on 9 September 2020.

The Letter of Intent was signed as a symbol of a more concrete cooperation between the two parties and UMW will fund a project to design a high-tech drone system that can assist in warehouse inventory management.
Specifically, the goal of this project is to design a drone that can fly indoor, autonomously between racks, performing inventories checking and updates remote database systems wirelessly.

To undertake this task, the project head Prof Ir Dr Shuhaimi Mansor will form a team of experts from different engineering background namely Dr Mohamad Hafis Izran Ishak, Dr Rozeha A Rashid and Dr Mohd Adib Sarijari (Electrical Engineering), Dr Kamarulafizam Ismail, Dr-Ing Ir Mohd Nazri Mohd Nasir (Mechanical Engineering) and Dr Afnizanfaizal Abdullah (Computing). Both parties have agreed that this project will be completed within five months.
The delegates of UMW consisted of General Manager of Technology & Innovation Division (TID), Mohamed Shaharudin, Senior Manager Group Chairman’s Office, Amirul Habibullah Amir Abdul Hakim, Executive Group Center of Excellence,Muhammad Shahrul Hanif Jamaludin and General Manager of Group Health, Safety, System & Environment, Abdul Aziz Mohamed Edar.
