Kuala Lumpur, 9 April 2019 – UTM and Green Community Members of Masjid Al-Muttaqin Wangsa Melawati recently launched the Green Mosque Project, officiated by YBhg. Tn Hj. Mohd Ajib Ismail, Director of Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (JAWI). Also present at the launching event was Prof Madya Dr. Johari Surif, Director of Centre for Community and Industry Network (CCIN) UTM, Technical Coordinator of Green Mosque Project, Dr. Aznah Nor Anuar; Chairman of Masjid Al-Muttaqin, Ar. Hamka Abu Dardak, and Chair of Education Bureau of Masjid Al-Muttaqin, Datin Dr. Raja Mazuin Raja Abdul Aziz.
Green Mosque project is a strategic collaboration between JAWI, Ministry of Education, private agencies, and local community in order to realize government’s effort towards Sustainable Goal Development (SDG).UTM, as a local education institution, has the expertise to be utilized in this project in order to meet the needs of local community in line with Dasar Komunti Negara.
The Green Mosque project started with the installation of Sistem Penuaian Air Hujan (SPAH) or Rainwater Harvesting System last year and marked as the pioneering activity of the project. SPAH’s installation is now complete and currently providing the mosque’s water supply for cleaning and ablution purposes. Continuing the effort of giving to the community, UTM has also donated several used computers to be used in Perpustakaan Harun Al-Rasyid, the library located at the mosque. Both activities are the beginning of the Green Mosque project. There are line-ups of sustainable projects to be implemented which already in plan, namely solar energy project and Al-Quran paper recycle project.
