Tuanku Chancellor English Language Club UTM encourages students to speak English

JOHOR BAHRU – The Tuanku Chancellor English Language  Club (TCELC) in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs (HEP) and Student Representative Council (MPP) of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) had organized a session known as ‘An Afternoon with Her Majesty’ on 31 March 2019.
The session was attended by Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Johor accompanied by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar, Director of Corporate Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaleha Abdullah and the Advisor of Tuanku Chancellor English Language Club, Prof. Dr. Masputeriah Hamzah.
The programme coordinator, Prof. Dr. Masputeriah Hamzah said that the programme was organized to commemorate Her Royal Highness (HRH) Raja Zarith Sofiah’s concern towards the students.
“Tuanku has encouraged students to use English in a more frequent manner as she knows very well that students must have good command of English.

“For this session, a total of nine students were being selected to share their life story in English with HRH Raja Zarith Sofiah,” said Prof. Masputeriah.
According to Prof. Masputeriah, this meet-up session was held to spark interest and encourage UTM students to express their thoughts, hopes and creativity in English in a casual environment.

“As the sixth meeting of the Tuanku Chancellor English Language Club, we gladly invited around 44 students who can be categorized as coming from the Bottom 40 or B40 (whose parents’ income were below RM2,000.00 a month),” she said.

Among the selected students were Nur Liyana Nabiha Yusof (2nd year Mechanical Engineering), Farida Sahdan (1st year Biomedical Engineering), Fadhila Jamaluddin (1st year Nuclear Engineering), Amalina Othman (1st year Biomedical Engineering), Siti Nor Hanie and Nurwafa Yasmin (1st year TESL).

Also selected to share their thoughts were Devi Durgaashini (1st year Nuclear Engineering), Sylvia Ipoh (final year student in Quantity Surveying), Yusri Johari, ( 1st year TESL) and Zahira Samsudin (3rd year Science Geoinformatic)
