Inbound Mobility Program UNISULLA-UTM at School of Civil Engineering

Johor Bahru, 6th March – A group of 10 students from Universitas Islam Sultan Agung Semarang (UNISULLA), Indonesia visited the School of Civil Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia from 12 February 2019 to 5 March 2019. The main purpose of the visit was to attend an intensive course in Traffic Engineering offered by the School of Civil Engineering. The Inbound Mobility Program, which aims to expose them to international learning experience, was coordinated by Dr. Roslli Noor Mohamed (Director of TNE, SKA), Dr. Noraliani Alias and Dr. Norzurairahetty Yunus (Director of Department of Geotechnics and Transportation) with assistance from two TNE staff (Nadirah and Nur Hayati Amilodi) and two postgraduate students (Raja Afiqah and Nurul Hidayah Hj Muslim).

In the Traffic Engineering course, the UNISULLA students learnt about traffic flow theory, traffic data collection, design of traffic signal control system and road geometric design. The lecture involved theoretical lecture, data collection on site and traffic assessment. Five lecturers were involved in the Traffic Engineering course: Mr. Che Ros Ismail, Ir. Dr. Sitti Asmah Hassan, Dr. Nordiana Mashros, Dr. Mohd Khairul Idham Mohd Satar and Dr. Azman Mohamed.

The students were taken to various places in Johor to look at traffic conditions and relate them to traffic management plan. The course incorporates theory and practice while simultaneously inculcates local culture and social values into the students.
