JOHOR BAHRU, 10 May 2016 – The Student Innovation Centre of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (CSIUTM) has organized the 10th Innovation Competition held at Dewan Tunku Chancellor and Astana Hall, Skudai campus.
The competition received the participation of 348 students with a total of 98 products competed.
CSIUTM Director, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rashid Husain said that the competition’s main objective was to provide an opportunity for students to showcase their creative ideas to be evaluated.
“A total of four main categories were contested namely School on Campus, Cafeteria, Souvenir and Improving Creative Community.
“The competition was held in two stages where the first stage was the preparation of creative products by the participating students for five weeks followed by the second stage of the evaluation process carried out product recommendations for choosing the product with potential for commercialization,” he said.
All of these products were assessed by a jury of 22 people consisting of lecturers and non-academic staff who have expertise in areas related to product development, innovation, commercialization and marketing.
The participants were also evaluated by juries which were made up of student leaders for the assessment for the Special Award.
“For this year’s competition a total of 11 Gold medals, 11 Silver medals and 11 Bronze medals were up for grabs. Also contested were the three special awards namely Best Dress, Best Booth and Best Poster, “he said.
Three gold medal winners with highest points collected were the Trio Brand with their products Handy Dandy (113 points) followed by Team T & G with products Track & GO (109 marks) and Group Ad Libitum with their products Flicker Fusion Quasi Hologram (105 marks).
