JOHOR BAHRU, 8 April 2015 – Group ‘Whatsoever’ from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) emerged as the Runner-Up for the Overall Category in the bridge model construction competition, UTMBridge 2015.

‘Genesis’ from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) was the overall champion while ‘KYM’ from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) was third.

In addition to becoming the runner-up, UTM also won second place in the category of the ‘Most Powerful and Lightweight Structure’ and third place for the ‘Poster and Multimedia’ sub-categories.

The UTMBridge 2015 competition comprised entries from two levels, namely, Higher Education Institutions (IPT) and Secondary Schools. Each level then competed in four categories, namely, i) Most Powerful and Lightweight Structure, ii) Creativity and Buildability, iii) Poster and Multimedia, and iv) Best Overall.

For the secondary school level, the group named ‘The Entire Cast’ from Sekolah Menengah Sains Sultam Mohamad Jiwa, Kedah won the overall category, with Sekolah Menengah Sains Tuanku Munawir of Negeri Sembilan in second place, and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Jalan Tiga , Selangor in third place.

UTMBridge 2015 received a total of  345 participants from 71 public and private institutions of higher learning and 333 students from 73 secondary schools nationwide.

All prizes were awarded by the UTM Vice-Chancellor Datuk Prof. Ir. Dr.Wahid Omar at  Dewan Sultan Iskandar, UTM Johor Bahru.

Also present was Prof. Dr. Khairul Anuar Kassim, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Prof. Dr Arizu Sulaiman, Chairman of UTMBridge Model Competition 2015.

The overall category winners for both levels received a cash prize of RM1,500.00 for first place, RM1,000.00 second place and RM750.00 for third place. Winners of other categories took home a trophy respectively.
