JOHOR BAHRU, 25 September 2014 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Johor Port Authority or Lembaga Pelabuhan Johor (LPJ) has been forged to allow collaboration in creating a Port of Excellence. The agreement was signed by Vice Chancellor of UTM, Prof Datuk. Ir. Dr Wahid Omar while the Assistant General Manager, Kamaruzaman Hj. Munasir was the signatory for LPJ. Prof. Wahid who was met after the signing ceremony at Johor Bahru campus said that UTM will work closely with LPJ in producing quality human capital in port management. “Besides quality human capital, both parties will be working together in creating a knowledge sharing platform to provide assistance to those interested in the operation of port management, maritime and shipping,” he said. The collaboration also encompasses various aspects such as consultation, Research and Development (R&D) and enhancement of human capital competencies in terms of knowledge and operational skill. Through this collaboration, LPJ is expected to meet the current needs and expectation of the shipping infrastructure development in Malaysia.
