JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 23 – The UTM School of Graduate Studies (SPS), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), successfully organised a competency development programme titled “Empowering the Digital Generation: Learn, Create & Lead with AI”, reaffirming the University’s strong commitment to nurturing future-ready and globally competitive postgraduate graduates through strategic and structured capacity-building initiatives.

Conducted online via Webex from 22 to 23 December 2025, the two-day programme brought together postgraduate students at both master’s and doctoral levels, alongside researchers, academics, and young professionals. The programme was designed to enhance participants’ understanding of digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence (AI), in response to the rapidly evolving higher education ecosystem and the increasing demand for advanced digital competencies within the global workforce.

The programme provided a comprehensive and structured learning experience, covering fundamental AI concepts and their applications across various sectors. Participants also gained insights into the integration of AI in communication and digital media, emerging career pathways related to AI and digital technologies, ethical considerations, data privacy and security, as well as future global trends in AI development. These components were carefully curated to ensure participants developed both theoretical understanding and practical awareness of the responsible application of AI in academic, research, and professional environments.

The programme was delivered by Dr Nur Anisa Ibrahim Gani, a certified Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) AI Trainer, alumna of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Technology (FEST), UTM, and former committee member of the Postgraduate Student Society (PGSS). Her engagement as a UTM alumna exemplified the University’s commitment to strengthening alumni-industry-academia linkages, while offering participants valuable insights grounded in real-world applications and regional best practices.

In addition to enhancing technical knowledge, the programme placed strong emphasis on ethical awareness and responsible innovation. Participants were encouraged to critically evaluate the implications of AI adoption, particularly in relation to academic integrity, ethical research practices, and data governance. This aligns with UTM’s broader mission to cultivate graduates who are not only technologically proficient but also principled, ethical, and socially responsible leaders.

Upon successful completion of the programme, participants were awarded an internationally recognised professional certificate, reflecting UTM’s continuous efforts to add value to postgraduate education through industry-relevant credentials. The certification further enhances graduates’ professional profiles and supports their employability in an increasingly competitive and technology-driven job market.

Overall, the successful organisation of “Empowering the Digital Generation: Learn, Create & Lead with AI” underscores SPS UTM’s ongoing commitment to providing high-impact competency development platforms that complement academic excellence, strengthen graduate employability, and enhance postgraduate students’ readiness to navigate future challenges. The initiative is fully aligned with UTM’s aspiration to remain a globally recognised institution of higher learning, driven by innovation, integrity, and sustainable human capital development.
