JOHOR BAHRU, Apr 17 – The highly anticipated Geotech Colloquium (GTeC) 2025 is set to welcome academicians and postgraduate students from southern higher education institutions for a transformative experience in geotechnical engineering. Scheduled to take place on April 17, 2025, at the Faculty of Civil Engineering (FKA) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in Johor Bahru, GTeC 2025, hosted by the Geotechnical Research Group (GRG), promises to be more than just a conference. It will serve as a convergence of ideas and innovations, focusing on addressing today’s most pressing challenges in ground engineering. The event will be inaugurated by the Deputy Dean of Academic & Student Affairs at FKA, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Mohamad Hidayat Jamal, and the Head of GRG, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Rini Asnida Abdullah.

The theme of GTeC 2025, “Foundations of the Future: Resilience, Innovation, and Sustainability,” sets the stage for a dynamic program that includes research presentations, feedback from academics, and interactive discussions between faculty and postgraduate students. Throughout the colloquium, 22 postgraduate research students from three participating universities presented their research findings within designated time slots. Each presentation highlighted key aspects of ongoing studies in the field of geotechnical engineering.
After the presentations, an engaging and in-depth discussion session was led by Professor Ir. Dr. Azman Kassim. This brainstorming session focused on the progress of each research project, during which participants actively discussed the challenges faced, research issues, and the specifications and requirements for laboratory equipment. Dr. Afikah Rahim, the project coordinator, stated that the session aims to foster engaging and productive dialogue among all academic staff within the GRG, promoting collaboration and the exchange of ideas to enhance the quality and impact of their research.

GTeC 2025 not only featured insightful presentations and discussions during the colloquium, but it also provided an excellent platform for networking among participants. Dedicated sessions were organized to facilitate interaction among postgraduate students from UTM, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). The event aimed to strengthen long-term relationships, foster collaboration, and promote mentorship within the geotechnical community. The ceremony was officially closed by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Norzurairahetty Mohd Yunus, marking the conclusion of a successful and impactful gathering.

Whether you are a dedicated geotechnical academic, an academic seeking collaboration, or a student eager to learn from experts in the field, GTeC 2025 is the event for you. Join us as we work together to build a resilient and sustainable future, both literally and figuratively.
