Interdisciplinary Science Rankings

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has proudly claimed the top spot in Malaysia and ranked 35th globally out of 749 universities in the inaugural Times Higher Education (THE) Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) 2025, announced on November 21, 2024. This remarkable achievement underscores UTM’s dedication to advancing interdisciplinary research and tackling complex global challenges.

The ISR 2025 evaluates universities from 92 countries, celebrating institutions that excel in integrating knowledge, traditions, and methodologies across various disciplines. Among the 12 Malaysian universities featured, UTM emerged as the national leader in this groundbreaking research area.

UTM’s success stems from its strategic alignment of research with real-world challenges, facilitated by an agile ecosystem for interdisciplinary collaboration. The university’s R&D Blueprint 2025 serves as a guiding framework, emphasizing innovative research in critical areas such as sustainable development, health technology, and smart cities. This blueprint supports UTM’s vision of driving Malaysia’s transformation into a knowledge-based economy through impactful partnerships bridging academia, industry, and society.

The ISR 2025 rankings are based on a rigorous evaluation of three core pillars: integration of disciplines, innovative research outputs, and global influence. UTM’s stellar performance across these dimensions solidifies its position as Malaysia’s leading institution in interdisciplinary science.

UTM extends its sincere appreciation to its researchers and community for their exceptional contributions to this success. To learn more about UTM’s journey in interdisciplinary research, visit the official UTM website or follow @utmofficial on social media for the latest updates.
