FutureGenius: AI Program jointly organized by UTM and UNNES

HULU LANGAT, May 25, 2024 – Nineteen students from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), under the leadership of Muhammad Nuruddin bin Baharin, a second-year student at the Malaysia-Japan Institute of Technology (MJIIT), successfully organized a community program called Future Genius. The program focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and aimed to highlight the importance of AI in everyday life while empowering rural communities by providing comprehensive AI education. The students received guidance from two faculty members from the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI), Dr. Sahnius Usman and Dr. Sya Azmeela Shariff. The initiative aimed to equip the residents of Hulu Langat with advanced AI skills, foster innovation, create new job opportunities, and drive sustainable development in the area.

The program attracted 17 students from Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) in Central Java, Indonesia, expanding its global reach. This participation has contributed to enhancing the program’s international presence and influence, showing that it is attracting students from our neighboring country. Led by Intan Bintang Wijaya, a dedicated UNNES representative, the collaborative effort between UTM and UNNES students demonstrated the spirit of cooperation and learning.

Activity with UNNES

The AI program consisted of three independent segments, providing a thorough understanding of AI’s function in contemporary society. The introductory session served as a primer on AI foundations, while the workshop section focused on practical applications and hands-on activities. The interactive storytelling component brought a creative element by demonstrating AI’s potential through narrative interaction.

Reflecting on her experience, UNNES’ Intan Bintang Wijaya noted the workshop’s real benefits, particularly in demystifying complicated AI concepts and developing practical skills. “Our participation in the AI workshop has been immensely enlightening,” she said. “Through interactive sessions and real-world simulations, we gained invaluable insights into AI’s transformative potential across various domains.”

The collaboration between UTM and UNNES exemplifies how international alliances can drive technological innovation and foster cross-cultural understanding. As AI continues to transform the global environment, initiatives like Future Genius act as catalysts, unleashing the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.

Creative and impressive outcomes from junior participant

This groundbreaking initiative highlights the importance of utilizing AI for positive societal impact and emphasizes the potential of collaborative efforts in shaping a more technologically proficient and interconnected world.
