UTM, Blue Bee Technologies Spearhead E-Waste Awareness and Recycling Initiative

JOHOR BAHRU, Nov. 9 – A significant milestone was achieved as the Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Blue Bee Technologies Sdn. Bhd officially inked a Letter of Collaboration (LoC).

This strategic partnership is poised to elevate awareness about E-Waste and advocate for proper collection methods crucial for future sustainability.

This collaboration transcends mere cooperation, embracing both research and industrial development.

Aligned with UTM’s core values of Integrity, Synergy, Excellence, and Sustainability (ISES), the initiative resonates with the global call for environmental responsibility, encapsulated in Sustainable Development Goals 14 and 15—dedicated to conserving marine resources and promoting the sustainable use of global ecosystems.

Let’s Recycle and Redeem Now! campaign

Guided by discussions with Mr. Mohamed Tarek El-Fatatry, ERTH Founder and CEO, the E-Waste collection initiative took root during the Science Industrial and Innovation Showcase (SIIFS) 2023, held on December 13-14, 2023.

Blue Bee Technologies Sdn. Bhd., represented by Mr. Muhammad Uwais Mohd Idham and Mr. Mohamed Shariff Ahmad Aji, actively participated in SIIFS 2023, introducing the Electronic Recycling Through Heroes (ERTH) program.

A dedicated booth at the event facilitates SIIFS 2023 visitors contributing their E-Waste to the ERTH team.

Over the two days of the SIIFS program, an estimated 150 items of E-Waste, totalling approximately 225 kg, were collected.

The success of this initiative prompted an extension of the E-Waste collection process until January 31, 2024, at the Faculty of Science, UTM.

Anticipated to cultivate awareness and active engagement from all Faculty of Science and UTM members, the program’s implementation aims to propel the success of the E-Waste recycling initiative.
