JOHOR BAHRU, March 19th – The Society of Petroleum Engineers of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (SPE-UTM) Student Chapter (SC), in collaboration with several oil and gas companies, has successfully organized the SPE-UTM SC Oil & Gas Festival 2022 (OGFEST’22)

The program has attracted over 800 participants comprised of local and international students and the multiple oil and gas companies held at Dewan Sultan Iskandar for four days from 18 until March 21st 2023.

In his officiating speech, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs), Prof. Dr Shamsul Sahibuddin, mentioned that the oil and gas industry has played a significant role in developing Malaysia’s economy and creating numerous job opportunities for students and fresh graduates.

“As Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs, I am aware of this industry’s importance and contribution to our nation’s progress.

“As we move forward in this digital age, it is vital for universities, industries and society to work in harmony. I am pleased that OGFEST’22 aims to showcase recent developments in the industry, encourage collaboration with industry professionals and receive feedback from industry panels on the projects exhibited,” he said.

The launching ceremony was held at Dewan Sultan Iskandar. It was also attended by the Dean Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Prof. Dr Rahmat Mohsin, General Manager (Result Delivery Partner) of PETRONAS, Mohamad Faudzi Mohd Yasir and Director of UTM Career Centre, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Che Rozid Mamat.

The OGFEST’22 provides a valuable opportunity for participants to expand their networks, exchange technical information and improve one’s personal and social skills.

“In addition to serving as a platform that offers the latest knowledge in the field of oil and gas careers, OGFEST’22 also conducts open interviews to provide job opportunities at companies such as PETRONAS, Mise Energy, SLB, First Filter, Elsa Energy, RFD, Monsta, Talent Corp and SEMARAK Training.

“This exhibition also offers information about places to undergo practical training for the students concerned,” he said.

In addition to its main program, OGFEST’22 featured several side programs such as an oil rig design competition, the CCUS Industrial Forum, career development and technical talks for related fields.
