In 2020, the Johor Malaysia Scouts (Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia Negeri Johor, PPMNJ) co-organised a Special Education Robotics Workshop (SpeEd) with STEM-RBTK of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The workshop involved the special needs pupils (Program Pendidikan Khas Integrasi, PPKI) and their teachers, which was regarded as a golden opportunity which seldom involved PPKI pupils. Their involvement also meant that they felt more welcomed by the community.

This year, PPMNJ and STEM-RBTK received sponsorship from Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri (MBIP) through Yayasan Penyayang Iskandar Puteri for the Iskandar Puteri Special Needs Scratch Challenge 2022 event. The programme was participated by schools across the Iskandar Puteri zone in Johor Bahru. Specifically, the programme only involved PPKI students and their teachers.

The programme was participated by 79 and 40 PPKI students from primary and secondary schools, respectively. The students were provided with tutorial classes which were facilitated by the STEM-RBTK FKE team. At the end of the programme, they are required to submit the assignments within the given time. Only ten outstanding groups were selected for the final event, where they needed to produce a game according to the given theme by using the Scratch platform.

“The involvement of students and teachers, especially the PPKI category, from various uniform bodies has shown their tremendous support and interest towards the programme. Through this programme, not just diversity is possible, companionship could be enhanced with more diligence”, said Tn. Hj. Bardin Uteh, the Chief Commissioner of PPMNJ.
