On 12th September 2019, a graduation day and closing ceremony of Hydrographic Surveying I Programme (UTM Hydro I) FIG/IHO/ICA category B was held at the Kayangan Suites, Pulai Spring Resort. This ceremony was held to celebrate UTM Hydro I FIG/IHO/ICA Category B students after completing 6 months of study and training from 18th March 2019 until 12th September 2019. It was also to reward the instructors and committee who were involved in the program. There were six (6) students who registered for this programme which four (4) of them are from the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), while the rest are from Northport (Malaysia) Berhad, Port Klang and Johor Port Berhad, Pasir Gudang, Malaysia.

The closing ceremony was attended by YBrs. First Admiral, Dr Najhan bin Md Said, Senior Director of Hydrography, National Hydrographic Centre, Royal Malaysian Navy and the Dean, Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying YBrs. Professor. Ts. Dr. Mohd Hamdan bin Ahmad. In addition, this ceremony was also attended by YBrs. Professor. Sr Dr. Mohd Razali bin Mahmud, Chairman of Steering Committee for Malaysia’s FIG/IHO/ICA Hydrography Programme, YBrs. Sr Dr. Ami Hassan bin Md Din as the Programme Manager, instructors, committee members and the closing ceremony’s secretariat. YBrs. Sr Dr. Ami Hassan bin Md Din welcomed the special guests and thanked everyone for the effort in making this programme a success.

In the opening remarks delivered by YBrs. Professor. Dr. Mohd Hamdan bin Ahmad, the Dean of Faculty of Built Environment Surveying has emphasized the committee’s success in ensuring that this programme be recognized internationally every year. The Dean also highlighted the importance of hydrography knowledge in supporting safe and efficient navigation of ships, marine resource exploitation, environmental protection and management and maritime boundary delimitation.

After the opening speech, the closing ceremony continued with the presentation of certificates and transcripts by YBrs. First Admiral Dr. Najhan bin Md Said to all six (6) students. At the same time, YBrs. First Admiral also presented the Best Student Award to Lt Dya Yeganraj s/o Sivalingam RMN. Next, the presentation of tokens of appreciation to the instructors and secretariats by the Dean.

In his speech, YBrs. First Admiral conveyed the message from the Director General of Hydrography, National Hydrographic Centre, Royal Malaysian Navy, YBrs. Rear Admiral Hanafiah bin Hassan who mentioned that all graduates must be prepared for the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) through the knowledge empowerment, technology change and its application in line with IR 4.0 requirements. Besides that, YBrs. First Admiral also reminded all graduates to always apply the knowledge they have learned during training and also to provide excellent service to the community after becoming a professional hydrographer. He also congratulated t all graduates and thanked all committees for their efforts in supporting and making this programme a success.
