JOHOR BAHRU, 29 Oct. – The Urban and Regional Planning Program (URPUTM), Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in collaboration with PLANMalaysia (formerly known as Department of Town and Country Planning) has organized an Expert Talk program  called Plus Action 2018 themed “Way Forward in Planning”.

This programme was attended by the guest of honor, the Director General of PLANMalaysia, Y.Bhg. Dato’ TPr. Hajah Rokibah Abdul Latif, the newly appointed UTM Adjunct Professor for the period from 1 October 2018 until 30 September 2019.

The program, which was held on Monday, 29 October 2018, at the Convention Hall, FABU, involved a total of 200 participants comprising students and lecturers from URPUTM and PLANMalaysia officials.

Welcoming speech was delivered by Senior Director of UTM Academic Leadership (UTMLead), Y.Bhg. Prof. Dato’ TPr. Dr. Ahmad Nazri Muhamad Ludin, representing the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International), Prof. Dr. Zainuddin Abd. Manan.

Prior to that, the Director of the Program (Urban and Regional Planning UTM), Assoc. Prof. TPr. Dr. Hairul Nizam Ismail, representing the Dean of FABU, had welcomed the PLANMalaysia delegates during a corporate engagement session held at Meeting Room 1, FABU.

Dr. Hairul Nizam who was also the programme director said the engagement meeting had produced a fruitful outcome when UTM was invited to work together with PLANMalaysia.

“PLANMalaysia also welcome any form of collaborations and potential research in the future involving researchers from UTM,

Throughout the program, three series of prime lectures were delivered by PLANMalaysia speakers such as the Director of Legal and Planning Regulatory Division, TPr,” he added.

Saidin Lateh, PLANMalaysia Director of the National Physical Plan Division, TPr. Norasiah Bee Mohd Haniff and Senior Assistant Director of PLANMalaysia Research and Development Division, Sanisah Shafie.

“The titles of the lectures presented were Town and Country Planning Act, National Physical Plan and Social Impact Assessment. In addition, participants also had the opportunity to visit exhibition booth related to urban planning,” he said.

The exhibition involved several parts of PLANMalaysia divisions such as National Physical Plan Division (NPPD), National Land Use Information Division (NLUID), Legal and Planning Regulatory Division (LPRD), Corporate Division and Regional Planning Division-Southern Zone Project Office (RPD-Southern), other than the work done by the students of Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning of UTM (BURP).

In the afternoon session, Y.Bhg. Dato’ TPr. Hajah Rokibah Abdul Latif with the directors and officers of PLANMalaysia had the pleasure of visiting the BURP Studio facilities as well as sharing their views in a dialogue session with students conducted by the URP Students Association (PEWIBAWA).

In general, the Expert Talk-Plus Action 2018 program organized by UTM with PLANMalaysia had successfully provided a comprehensive exposure to students on the contribution of urban planning in Malaysia in the process of national development.
