KUALA LUMPUR, 13 April – UTM Architecture and Civil Engineering students have won the top 2 prizes at the prestigious Malaysian Structural Steel Association (MSSA) Open Ideas Competition 2017, which was open to all Malaysian schools of architecture and engineering. The first prize was RM10,000 and 2nd prize was RM7,000. Nine universities took part in the competition which was co-organised by CIDB and MSSA. The competition was entitled “Youth Dome in Steel” with the acronym YouDo. This competition was open to students in the field of architecture and civil engineering. The primary intention of this design competition was to provide students of architecture and civil engineering in Malaysia with the unique opportunity to collaborate in a building design that employs steel as the main structural and finishing material. The main objective of the competition was to make students aware of the fact that building design does not lie within the jurisdiction of the architect or civil engineer individually, but it is a means for them to arrive at a meaningful realization of both architectural fascination and structural manifestation. The competition aimed to bridge the gap between the training of architecture and civil engineering.
