JOHOR BAHRU, July 22 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Geron Biomed Sdn. Bhd. to broaden cooperation in the field of biotechnology.
The signing of the memorandum was held in the Main Meeting Room, Sultan Ibrahim Chancellery Building with UTM being represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar while Geron Biomed was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, En. Ramlee Jaafar.
In this collaboration, UTM through its Technology Entrepreneurship Center (UTMTEC) will explore and implement research, development and entrepreneurship initiatives in the field of nutrigenomics and nutraceuticals with the aim of creating new entrepreneurs in the Bio- Health industry.
In a press conference held after the signing ceremony, Prof. Wahid said that this agreement will also facilitate the objectives of the UTMTEC as a one-stop center to promote and foster the entrepreneurial mindset among its community.
“UTMTEC will spearhead the relationship with the Small and Medium Industries (SMIs) in the southern region and eventually create a joint venture chain between the entities involved,” he said.
Prof. Wahid also expressed his confidence that this MoU will boost the ‘Entrepreneurial Mind Setting’ initiatives, fostering high-impact transformation towards New Academia.
“Collaboration with the industries is essential to produce more entrepreneurs and ensure UTM’s commercialization agenda is in line with the country’s need,” Prof Wahid further added.
Also attending the ceremony were the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Iskandar Malaysia Johor, Tuan Hj. Md. Salikon Sarpin and UTMTEC Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kamariah Ismail.
