JOHOR BAHRU, June 12 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU), has reinforced its commitment to digital transformation in the built environment sector by formalising a strategic partnership with Glodon Software Sdn. Bhd. This collaboration was solidified during a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) exchange ceremony held at the Main Meeting Room in the Sultan Ibrahim Chancellery Building at UTM.

The ceremony was coordinated by Sr. Dr. Fara Diva Mustapa, who serves as the Coordinator for the Quantity Surveying and Construction Computer Lab at the Faculty. It was attended by key representatives from both institutions. Glodon Software Sdn. Bhd. was represented by Joyce Chan Zhai Zye, the Country Director for Glodon Malaysia and the Middle East, along with Junaida Fatina Mahyuddin, the Customer Success Director. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially exchanged between Joyce Chan and Prof. Sr. Dr. Kherun Nita Ali, the Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying.

FABU has been using Glodon’s Cubicost software in its Quantity Surveying Laboratory since 2018, allowing students to work with industry-relevant digital tools in a hands-on learning environment. This existing collaboration has set the stage for a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that aims to deepen the university’s involvement with digital construction technologies and integrate industry practices into the academic framework.
The MoU outlines several key areas of cooperation. A primary focus will be the joint promotion of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs, particularly in Quantity Surveying and Construction. This initiative will be implemented through structured activities, including academic seminars, intensive workshops, BIM-focused competitions, and knowledge-sharing sessions. These efforts are designed to enhance digital awareness, foster creativity, and develop practical skills that align with current industry demands.

The partnership aims to enhance students’ employability by providing them with exposure to current technological advancements in the construction and project management sectors. By equipping students with relevant software knowledge and technical skills, this collaboration helps develop well-rounded graduates who are prepared for the demands of a technology-driven and globally competitive workforce.
Additionally, Glodon Software has shown a strong interest in expanding the collaboration to include new initiatives. These initiatives may involve industrial training placements, voluntary industrial training (VIT) programs, beginner-level professional certification in digital construction software, advanced technical workshops, and potential student visits to Glodon’s headquarters in Shanghai. These opportunities further emphasise the partnership’s commitment to hands-on learning and global exposure.

The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) represents a significant milestone in UTM’s ongoing efforts to connect academia with industry. It demonstrates the university’s proactive approach to forming partnerships that enhance the academic experience, strengthen professional networks, and promote innovation in the built environment. This collaboration with Glodon Software Sdn. Bhd. aligns closely with UTM’s strategic vision of advancing digital education and ensuring industry relevance. It prepares students to tackle current challenges and embrace future advancements in the construction and infrastructure sectors.
