KATONG, May 4 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) continues to strengthen its global alumni engagement with the official launch of the UTM Alumni Chapter Singapore, marking a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and empowering its global alumni community.
Held at Holiday Inn Express Katong, the alumni dinner was officiated by Professor Ts. Dr. Ali Selamat, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs & Alumni), who delivered a keynote address underscoring the strategic importance of the new chapter. “The establishment of this chapter represents more than just a symbolic gesture. It is a dynamic platform for professional collaboration, academic advancement, and the fostering of global citizenship among our alumni,” said Prof. Ali.

The event was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Hisyam Rasidi, Director of UTM Alumni, the President of UTM Alumni Chapter Singapore, and a diverse group of alumni who are currently contributing to various industries across Singapore.

Singapore’s strategic location and strong academic and economic ties with UTM and the state of Johor make it an ideal hub for regional engagement. The chapter is expected to play a critical role in supporting cross-border collaboration, particularly in light of the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) initiative.
“We see our alumni in Singapore as key enablers in the JS-SEZ ecosystem, through strategic industry linkages, internship pathways, and innovation partnerships that benefit both nations” Prof. Ali added.

The new chapter supports UTM’s mission of holistic development and global reach by promoting alumni networking, driving academic and industry collaborations, and offering mentorship and exposure opportunities for students. It also aims to strengthen alumni unity through continuous engagement. The dinner reaffirmed UTM’s commitment to empowering its alumni and advancing inclusive innovation.

Singapore now joins UTM’s network of international alumni chapters across Türkiye, Indonesia, China, Nigeria, and Japan, further reinforcing the university’s vision of becoming a leading global institution anchored in excellence, innovation, and impact.

Prof. Ali concluded the evening by officially launching the chapter and expressing deep appreciation for the continuous support of UTM alumni abroad.
“Your success is a reflection of UTM’s legacy, and your commitment to giving back will inspire the next generation of leaders. Let this chapter be an active force in uplifting others, wherever they may be,” Prof. Ali remarked.
