UTM Strengthens Ties with UNHAS through Research Collaboration

MAKASSAR –  Dr. Nur Hafizah Abd Khalid from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has been appointed as a temporary invited researcher for one semester at the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Hasanuddin (UNHAS) in Makassar, Indonesia. This prestigious appointment, from September 2 to December 20, 2024, highlights the growing research collaboration between UTM and UNHAS. The program is fully funded and requires Dr. Nur Hafizah to visit in person from November 20 to November 28, 2024, during which she will engage in significant academic and research activities.

During her time at UNHAS, Dr. Nur Hafizah will deliver physical classes for undergraduate students enrolled in the Concrete Materials course. Her lectures are designed to captivate students by providing hands-on insights into advanced concrete materials, which align with her ongoing research at UTM. In addition to teaching, Dr. Nur Hafizah will engage in fruitful research discussions with UNHAS researchers, further strengthening the academic ties between the two institutions. This collaboration has also allowed her to co-author a paper for publication in an indexed journal, enhancing the international research output of UTM and UNHAS.

The ongoing research and academic exchange with UNHAS is part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) established between UTM and UNHAS. This partnership extends beyond academic exchanges; on August 22, 2024, UNHAS hosted the 5th International Conference on Civil and Environmental Engineering (ICCEE) at UTM’s Kuala Lumpur campus. The conference, attended by over 120 participants from various countries, focused on “Developing Adaptive Infrastructure for Climate Change,” bringing together experts to discuss transformative infrastructure technologies and climate resilience.

These events demonstrate the active and impactful engagement between UTM and UNHAS, emphasizing their commitment to fostering meaningful connections through teaching, research, and conferences that enhance both institutions’ global academic and research presence. This collaboration not only strengthens the impact on Malaysia’s Research Assessment (MyRA) but also establishes a sustainable framework for future joint initiatives, improving Malaysia’s standing in the global research community.
