Eid al Fitr Celebration with International Students 2024

Johor Bahru – Eid al-Fitr is a significant celebration for Muslims worldwide as it marks the end of the month-long fasting of the holy month of Ramadan. In observance of Eid al Fitr, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) International organized a remarkable program to commemorate the celebration with all international students of UTM and their families. The event took place on April 10, 2024, from 10 am to 1 pm at Sri Perdana Hall, Perdana College.

The event was attended by more than 400 international students, their families, and the Director of UTM International, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Ariffin bin Abu Hassan, along with UTM International staff. Dr. Ariffin gave a warm welcoming speech that also touched on the current situation in Palestine, reminding everyone to remember our brothers and sisters facing difficulties and hardship while celebrating Eid al-Fitr. The program was thoroughly planned to uplift the lively atmosphere of the Hari Raya among UTM International students and staff.

Following Dr. Ariffin’s speech, the guests were treated to amazing performances by the International Student Society (ISS), which comprises students from Yemen, Pakistan, Nigeria, Palestine, and Egypt. Dr. Ariffin also introduced the “duit raya” tradition by giving it to all children joining the program. All guests and participants were served Nasi Biryani, Satay, Nasi Impit, different kinds of kuih raya, and juices. During the dining, all guests made use of the opportunity to get to know each other, strengthening relationships and bonding as the UTM family.

By participating in this event, the students and their families had the opportunity to experience the refreshing viewpoint of the Eid al-Fitr celebration, where different cultures and attires were brought together in a single event. Throughout the year, the Eid al-Fitr celebration has received positive feedback from the students and their families, and the success of the event is credited to UTM International and ISS, who sacrificed their time and energy to contribute to the event’s success.
