Johor Bahru, 4 July 2023 – In an exciting step towards a sustainable future, TNB Power Generation (TNB Genco) and the Institute of Future Energy (IFE) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) recently came together for a discussion meeting focused on Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) initiatives. The meeting aimed to explore UTM’s expertise on CCUS, which includes training opportunities, postgraduate programs, and research facilities.

Chaired by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr Md Pauzi Abdullah, Director of IFE, the meeting brought together a team of experts and researchers passionate about CCUS. Attendees from IFE were notable researchers like Assoc. Prof. Dr Anwar Johari, Deputy Director of Centre of Hydrogen Energy (CHE), Dr Tuan Amran Tuan Abdullah, Ts. Dr. Mohd Fadhzir Ahmad Kamaroddin, Dr. Muhamad Arif Ab Aziz, Dr. Sharul Nizam, Dr. Nurhafizah Abd Khalid and Dr. Muhamed Yusuf Shahul Hamid. Their collective knowledge and insights fueled the engaging discussions on CCUS.

TNB Genco representatives were led by Haji. Ahmad Faraid Mohd Yahaya (Director, Project Management Office Environmental, Social and Governance (PMO ESG), Ir. Norhazree Azman, Ir. Amiruddin Rahmat, Ts. Norfaizah M. Yusof, Rahimy Yaakub and Muhaz Rizal.

The meeting began with UTM presenting their notable achievements in CCUS. They highlighted their ongoing research projects, technological advancements, and research programs that aim to provide sustainable energy solutions. UTM’s dedication to developing innovative CCUS methodologies was evident as they shared their efforts in addressing environmental challenges.

At the meeting, the main point of discussion was creating training modules for TNB executives who want to learn about CCUS. The training will focus on ongoing learning and skill development, so TNB executives can keep up with the fast-changing CCUS technologies and stay ahead of the game.

UTM’s dedication to nurturing future leaders in CCUS was evident in their discussion of postgraduate research programs. By providing advanced education and research opportunities, UTM aims to empower a new generation of experts capable of addressing today’s complex environmental issues. These programs will foster innovation and creativity in pursuing sustainable energy solutions.

The meeting also shed light on UTM’s state-of-the-art research facilities dedicated to CCUS. The collaboration between TNB Genco and IFE UTM represents a significant milestone in the journey towards a greener future through CCUS. The meeting’s fruitful discussions and idea exchange set the stage for future collaborations, groundbreaking research, and the development of innovative strategies to combat climate change.
