UTM-University of Riau Indonesia Collaborate to Explore the Potential of SMEs

JOHOR BAHRU, 29 March 2016 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and the University of Riau Indonesia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate in exploring the potential of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in their respective territories.

The signing ceremony was held at the Institute of Bio-Product Development (IBD) by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Dr. Azlan Abdul Rahman who represented UTM, while the University of Riau was represented by its Rector, Prof. Dr. Aras Mulyadi.

Speaking at a press conference after the ceremony, Prof. Azlan said that among the collaborations that has been agreed between the two parties were the exchange of lecturers and students, as well as sharing of technology and experience in the field of SMEs.

“A university should play a role beyond its status as an institution of higher learning to help strengthen education, research and world-class service.

“This collaboration will benefit  SMEs in both Malaysia and Riau. We will also explore the potential market  open to SMEs in the two regions involved ,” he said.

The MoU signing ceremony was held in conjunction with the SMI International Seminar which was jointly organized by the Johor Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) and the University of Riau.

Also attending the ceremony were the General Manager of  Johor RTC, Dr. Mohd. Azlan Abd. Jalil and also the Universitas of Riau Director of  Graduate Program, Prof. Dr. H. Zulkarnain.
