JOHOR BAHRU, June 24 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) continues to reinforce its commitment to industry-integrated education and sustainable innovation through the Electrical Engineering Showcase 2026 (EES 2026), an annual platform organised by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering (FKE) that connects academia, industry and emerging engineering talent.

Held across multiple laboratories at FKE, the event brought together 139 student groups, 84 evaluation panels comprising 28 industry representatives and 56 academic panellists, as well as active participation from Research Groups, Centres of Excellence (COEs) and Higher Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE). This made it one of FKE’s most comprehensive academic showcase events to date.

EES 2026 served as the culminating assessment for third-year students enrolled in the Integrated Design Project (IDP) course, where teams were required to present their projects through poster exhibitions and live product demonstrations. Projects were evaluated across 22 themes spanning five departments: Electrical Power Engineering (POWER), Communication Engineering (COMM), Electronics and Computer Engineering (ECE), Control and Mechatronics Engineering (CMED), and Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences (BME), covering areas such as Smart Manufacturing, Search and Rescue Robotics, Ageing Society, Paediatric Healthcare, Sports Technology, Hospital Management and Support Systems, Sustainable Agriculture and Smart Education.

In recognition of excellence, a total of 139 awards were presented: 5 Gold Awards to the most outstanding projects, 52 Silver Awards and 82 Bronze Awards, celebrating achievement across all thematic categories as judged by both academic and industry panels.

Beyond the student competition, EES 2026 also featured a dedicated exhibition by FKE’s Research Groups, COEs and HICoE, presenting their latest research outcomes, professional services, and areas of expertise. The exhibition served as a platform to strengthen academia-industry collaboration, promote knowledge sharing and highlight the breadth of FKE’s research and innovation capabilities. The event was supported by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Instrumentation & Measurement Society (IMS) Malaysia Chapter and IEEE Malaysia Communications Society and Vehicular Technology Society Joint Chapter (IEEE MyComVT) as Bronze collaborators.

The programme concluded with a Closing and Awards Presentation Ceremony officiated by FKE Deputy Dean (Academic & Student Affairs), Prof. Ir. Dr. Muhammad Nadzir Marsono, who congratulated all participating students and reaffirmed the Faculty’s dedication to producing graduates aligned with evolving industry and societal needs.

EES 2026 continues to be an important platform for experiential learning and industry collaboration, reflecting UTM’s broader aspirations under the UTM ASCEND 2030 framework and supporting multiple United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure and SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
