UTM Strengthens Regional Academic Ties with UNILED through Strategic MoU

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has strengthened its regional academic ties with Universitas Lembah Dempo (UNILED) in Indonesia through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on April 7, 2026. The partnership aims to advance academic excellence and research innovation across borders, with a focus on joint research projects, mobility programs, and collaborative publications. The MoU is expected to support UTM’s ASCEND2030 strategic vision and reinforce its commitment to impactful regional and global engagement.

JOHOR BAHRU, Apr 7 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through its Faculty of Computing, proudly announces another milestone in international academic collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universitas Lembah Dempo (UNILED), Indonesia. The ceremony took place on 7 April 2026 at UTM Johor Bahru, symbolising a renewed commitment to advancing academic excellence and research innovation across borders.

Representing UTM was Prof. Ts. Dr. Intan Zaurah Mat Darus, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic & International), while Dr. Elvera, S.E., M.Sc., Rector, signed on behalf of the UNILED.

The MoU signing was witnessed by Prof. Dr. Azlan Mohd Zain, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Computing, UTM, and Dr. Lendy Rahmadi, M.Kom, Chairman of the Foundation, UNILED, alongside delegations from both universities, underscoring the unity and shared vision of this partnership.

UTM and UNILED have been recognised as Strategic Collaborative Partners since 2018, with impactful activities resumed in 2024 following the pandemic. These included inbound mobility programs at UTM featuring CSR knowledge transfer in Segamat schools, and outbound mobility programs in Pagar Alam schools, Indonesia.

Looking ahead, both institutions have agreed to expand their collaboration over the next three years, from 2026 to 2029, through a range of initiatives, including inbound and outbound mobility programmes at both university and school levels, joint research projects across computing and interdisciplinary domains, active participation in conference through paper submissions as well as reviewer and editor roles, and collaborative publications such as book chapters and other academic contributions.

This long-term partnership not only strengthens academic excellence and research innovation but also directly supports UTM’s ASCEND2030 strategic vision, reinforcing its commitment to impactful regional and global engagement.

“Through the spirit of ASCEND 2030, the understanding established between UTM and UNILED is expected to be a catalyst for increased exchange and sharing of knowledge and expertise. This effort will not only support academic and research excellence, but also strengthen the vision and mission of both universities. Through this strategic collaboration, I believe that the resulting synergy will open up space for innovation, talent development and high-impact outcomes, in line with the aspirations of ASCEND 2030.” said Prof. Ts. Dr. Intan Zaurah Mat Darus.

To ensure smooth coordination and effective implementation of the collaboration, Prof. Ts. Dr. Dayang Norhayati Abang Jawawi has been appointed as the Account Manager for the UTM–UNILED partnership, serving as the key liaison to oversee activities and strengthen institutional ties.
