📝 Summary

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) hosted a seminar with Meiji University to strengthen Malaysia-Japan research engagement, focusing on mechanical precision engineering. The event brought together students and academics for knowledge sharing and research exchange, fostering collaboration and innovation. The initiative reflects MJIIT’s commitment to promoting global research collaboration and driving progress in engineering.

KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 4 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), through the Malaysia–Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), recently hosted a Malaysia–Japan academic engagement seminar with Meiji University at the Banquet Hall, Razak Tower, UTM Kuala Lumpur. The programme, themed Bridging Mechanical Minds: Engineering Across Borders, brought together students and academics from both institutions for a day of knowledge sharing and research exchange in the field of mechanical precision engineering.

Organised by the Department of Mechanical Precision Engineering (MPE), MJIIT, the engagement served as a platform to strengthen academic ties between Malaysia and Japan while fostering meaningful collaboration among researchers and students. The programme was led by Ts. Dr. Nur Azmah Nordin, Head of the Department of Mechanical Precision Engineering, together with the organising team from MJIIT.

The programme began with opening remarks by Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Saiful Amri Mazlan, who welcomed participants and emphasised the importance of international academic engagement in advancing research and innovation. He highlighted that initiatives such as this provide valuable opportunities for students and researchers from both countries to exchange ideas, broaden their perspectives, and build lasting professional networks.

Throughout the programme, undergraduate and postgraduate students from both institutions presented their research across a wide range of topics within mechanical engineering and related disciplines. The presentations covered areas such as design optimisation methods, corrosion-resistant coatings, magnetorheological systems, bio-inspired structures, fluid dynamics, additive manufacturing, and sustainable engineering solutions.

The research sessions were chaired by academics from Meiji University, including Prof. Dr. Zenichi Miyagi, Prof. Dr. Masato Inoue, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sachiko Ishida created an engaging environment where students confidently shared their findings while receiving constructive feedback from fellow researchers and faculty members.

Beyond the presentations, the engagement encouraged open discussions between lecturers and students, allowing participants to exchange insights and explore potential collaborative research opportunities. These interactions further strengthened the long-standing academic partnership between UTM MJIIT and Meiji University.

The program concluded with closing remarks and a certificate award ceremony delivered by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nurulakmar Abu Husain, Dean of UTM MJIIT, followed by laboratory visits to the Precision Lab and Microscopy Lab at MJIIT and a commemorative photo session.
