KITAKYUSHU, July 4 – A delegation from the Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) participated in the 38th International Conference on Industrial, Engineering & Other Applications of Applied Intelligent Systems (IEA/AIE 2025) held at the Kitakyushu International Conference Centre in Japan.
This year’s conference marked a significant milestone for UTM MJIIT, as the faculty is set to host IEA/AIE 2026, the 39th edition of the conference, in Kuala Lumpur. The delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Nurulakmar Abu Husain, Dean of MJIIT and Advisory Chair of IEA/AIE 2026. She was accompanied by Prof. Ts. Dr. Ali Selamat, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs & Alumni and Programme Chair of IEA/AIE 2026, as well as Dr. Kaiyisah Hanis Mohd Azmi, the Conference Secretary for IEA/AIE 2026. Additionally, they were joined by Prof. Hamido Fujita, who serves as General Chair for both IEA/AIE 2025 and IEA/AIE 2026 and is a strong advocate for international collaboration between Japan and Malaysia.

During the opening session of the conference, Dr. Nurulakmar officially introduced UTM MJIIT and Kuala Lumpur as the host for the next edition of the IEA/AIE conference. This announcement was met with enthusiasm from the international research community, setting the stage for greater collaboration and participation in 2026. The team also engaged in various technical sessions, keynote lectures, and networking opportunities with leading experts in artificial intelligence, software engineering, and applied intelligent systems.
The conference featured distinguished keynote speakers, including Prof. Enrique Herrera-Viedma from the University of Granada, Spain, who discussed Responsible Artificial Intelligence Systems; Prof. Volker Gruhn from the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany, who presented on AI in Software Engineering; and Prof. Hector Perez-Meana from the Instituto Politecnico Nacional (IPN), Mexico, who shared insights on Compressive Sensing in Signal and Image Processing.
Additionally, the MJIIT delegation had the opportunity to connect with Prof. Sebastian Link from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, further strengthening UTM’s global academic network.

MJIIT and UTM warmly invite researchers, academics, and industry professionals to submit their original work for IEA/AIE 2026, which will take place in Kuala Lumpur from July 6 to July 9, 2026. Accepted papers will be published in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence (LNCS/LNAI) series.
