The Language Academy, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), under the initiative of the Technology and Language Education Research group, conducted the International Seminar on Research and Academic Exchange in collaboration with West Visayas State University (WVSU). The seminar provided a platform for seven speakers from both universities to present on various interesting topics related to research, teaching, and internationalization in the Global South. This seminar attracted researchers, lecturers, and students from both universities.
From WVSU, Dr. Joselito F. Villaruz delivered his speech titled “President Hour: Top Management Vision – Journey to Becoming a Research University.” Dr. Greta G. Gabinete talked about “Nature and Trends in International Research Collaboration.” Besides that, Prof. Edel Carmela Csoka’s talk was on the “Nature of Internationalization in the Global South,” while Dr. Elias C. Olapane discussed “Research Trends and Collaboration in the Global South.” Dr. Rosario Clarabel C. Contreras presented the “Nature of the Academic Ecosystem in the Global South.” On the other hand, from UTM, Prof. Dr. Zuraidah Mohd Don presented an engaging session on “Language-in-Education Policy and Planning in Malaysia,” while Prof. Ts. Dr. Zaidatun Tasir delivered her topic, “Teaching-led Research.” Based on the feedback from the participants, they expressed their appreciation for the insightful and fruitful event.
This successful seminar has strengthened the ties between UTM and WVSU. Following the international seminar, the WVSU delegates had a guided campus tour, including visits to the Language Academy and School of Education, FSSH. The event was organized by Dr. Kew Si Na, Senior Lecturer of the Language Academy, FSSH, UTM Johor Bahru, as part of the bilateral activities of both universities, together with Dr. Ungku Khairunnisa, Head of the LA Technology and Language Research group, FSSH.
