Malaysia Drone League (MDL) 2024, Season 2

JOHOR BAHRU, 5 March – The Malaysia Drone League (MDL) kicked off its Season 2 in style with the Tiny Whoop Series #1, held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on March 2, 2024. The MDL is the premier league for drone racing in Malaysia. It is a platform for organizing and hosting drone racing events, fostering competition, and promoting the sport in the region.

The event, organized by the Sports Innovation & Technology Centre (SITC), UTM, Drone Racing Association Malaysia (DRAM), and MultiGP Malaysia, witnessed 32 skilled pilots from Malaysia and Singapore battle it out in the Pro and Sports categories. Supported by Drone For Speed (DFS), Institut Sukan Negara (ISN), FPV Underground community, Maxis Malaysia, and Haf Drones, and UTM Aeroclub. The competition showcased the emerging world of FPV (First Person View) drone racing. Pilots navigated their tiny whoops, agile micro drones, through a vibrant indoor LED neon race track, pushing the boundaries of speed and skill. The high-octane competition saw pilots compete in qualifying rounds, followed by double elimination matches to determine the champions. As a part of the community service project, SITC (UTM) committed to provide valuable skills and knowledge to the community, potentially leading to career opportunities in the growing drone industry.

This event not only celebrates the growing popularity of drone racing in Malaysia but also serves as a platform for pilots to showcase their talent and hone their skills. The Tiny Whoop Series is just the beginning of an exciting season 2 for the MDL 2024. The league aims to promote and develop drone racing in the region, fostering a thriving community of enthusiasts and creating opportunities for talented individuals to shine.
