In line with UTM’s enVision UTM 2025 strategic plan and its commitment to forging pragmatic and practical international partnerships, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) recently participated in the EURIE 2023 Summit. This annual international higher education conference and exhibition, held from 1-3 March 2023 at the Lutfi Kirdar ICEC International Convention and Exhibition Center, focused on current issues in the internationalization of higher education and key topics in higher education management.
UTM’s attendance at the conference aimed to reinforce its strategy of scholarly excellence and international recognition through partnership and collaboration. The objectives were to seek, establish, and strengthen networking with new and existing international partners, generate opportunities, and enhance partnerships for academic cooperation, student/staff exchanges, and promote the 13th UTM Presidents Forum (UPF) 2023.
Representatives from UTM, including the Director of UTM International Office, Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Ariffin Abu Hasan, and Acting Associate Director of Global Education and Experience, Dr Ahmad Fadhil Yusof, participated in numerous high-impact sessions with key individuals from prestigious institutions. These included the Member Board of Trustees (Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research, Sudan), Presidents, Rectors, Vice-Rectors, Erasmus Coordinators, and Directors of the International Office. They successfully initiated several Erasmus projects with potential partners, primarily in Turkey and Romania, which will significantly enhance UTM’s staff and student mobility programs with its university partners. Furthermore, UTM faculty members connected with international participants to foster collaborative research and academic endeavors.
Apart from the engagement sessions, the Director of UTM International Office, Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Ariffin Abu Hasan, attended the EURAS Executive Board Meeting, which resulted in opportunities for UTM to share all its one-year programs with other EURAS members via EURAS digital media and the opportunity for paper publications under EURAS Academic Journal.
In addition to the engagement sessions, the Director of UTM International Office, Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Ariffin Abu Hasan, participated in the EURAS Executive Board Meeting, resulting in valuable opportunities for UTM to showcase its one-year programs to other EURAS members through EURAS digital media. This will enable UTM to publish academic papers in the EURAS Academic Journal. UTM is optimistic that the initiatives discussed during the engagement sessions and meetings at EURIE 2023 will be executed smoothly, bringing substantial benefits and amplifying the university’s internationalization agenda.
